Art Studies
This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications from an inter-disciplinal perspective, drawing primarily from the fields of art history, art theory and aesthetics, arts management and curatorial studies. This course locates the study of art and material culture in a range of visual, historical, social, cultural, political, and theoretical contexts. Students will learn the latest methods for the critical analysis of art, identify the latest ideas in art and how they intersect with the public sphere, interpret and elucidate phenomenon as they explore the art world, and the practice of curating. Career options are just as varied as the many fields connecting art and society. Graduates may work as writers, art manager, curators, researchers, educators or critics. The elective course package includes Introduction to Art Theory (5 credits), Art Market (2 credits), Introduction to Anthropology of Art (2 credits), Art, Psyche, and Creativity (2 credits), and Art Management and Exhibition (2 credits).
