The Intermedia major equips you with the skills and knowledge to navigate the dynamic intersection of various artistic mediums. This program delves into the theoretical and practical aspects of creating and analyzing art that transcends traditional boundaries, involving the time-based mediums and the new media. To graduate with a major in Intermedia, you will complete a core curriculum encompassing five essential courses: - Moving Image and Screen Culture (3 credits) : Explore the history, theory, and aesthetics of film and video art. Gain critical analysis tools to understand how moving images shape our perception of the world. - Sonic-seeing: Experiential Approach to Sound (3 credits) : Delve into the world of sound as an artistic medium. This course combines theoretical frameworks with hands-on exploration of sound recording, manipulation, and its role in contemporary art forms. - Liveness: Live Art and Its Mediatization (3 Credits): Investigate the dynamic field of live art, including performance art, installation, and happenings. This course examines the challenges and opportunities presented by the documentation and dissemination of live experiences in the digital age. - New Media Art (3 credits) : Immerse yourself in the ever-evolving realm of New Media Art. Gain practical skills and theoretical understanding of digital tools and technologies used to create interactive, web-based, and multimedia artwork. - Art of Film (Film Analysis) (3 credits) : Develop a sophisticated understanding of film language and its elements. Learn to critically analyze films through various theoretical lenses, fostering a deeper appreciation for the power of cinema.
